Data of interest

The Kábilas troupe has its origins in 1860, the founding year of the Moors and Christians festival of Ontinyent in honor of the Holy Christ of Agony. Although in the beginning they appeared under the name of “Moros del Rif”, it was in 1878 when they were already known under the current name of Kábilas. As a result of the initial name, for some time they were also known as Rifeños.

The clothing has had some changes over time, currently leaving two official suits, the gala and the daily one. The gala costume is composed of a white cape and djellaba, with laces and tassels of the same color, white shoes, a red fez cap and an embossed leather bag. The daily one is made up of a djellaba of any stripe different from that used by other troupes, green shoes, a red fez hat and a leather bag.

Currently the troupe is made up of 185 kábilas, our official band being the Alfarrasí Musical Instruction Band.

These years of history have given us spectacular captaincies and embassies. Seven kábilas have led the Society of Festeros accompanied by many others occupying various positions in different governing boards, twelve festival queens, daughters or granddaughters of kábilas, as well as five town criers.

They premiere “Ruh Kabira”, a Moorish march dedicated to the First Tro 2023 Eduardo Beneyto López.
