Last Saturday, June 21, in an emotional ceremony held in Ontinyent, Rafa Ferrero Terol received the Cervino Award 2025, a distinction that honors his long and valuable career in service of the Moors and Christians Festival. The event was attended by representatives of the Societat de Festers, the City Council, festival officials, friends, and family.
“This award not only recognizes what you have done, but who you are and what you represent,” emphasized Ricardo Calabuig, president of the Societat de Festers, during his speech. “It is a well-deserved tribute to a lifetime devoted generously to our festival.”
Rafa Ferrero has been a key figure in the recent history of Ontinyent’s festival. He has served as president of the Societat de Festers, been awarded its Gold Badge, directed the Museu Fester, authored several books and articles, and worked as a promoter, herald, and speaker, as well as a regular contributor to media and initiatives related to the festive world. His leadership was crucial during the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the festival, the year it was declared a Festival of National Tourist Interest.
This year, with Ontinyent now recognized as a Festival of International Tourist Interest, the tribute to Ferrero takes on special significance.
With this award, the city not only honors his past contributions but also the living legacy that continues to inspire new generations of festival participants.
