Their Majesties King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia of Spain will sponsor the commemorative events celebrating the declaration of International Tourist Interest for the Moors and Christians Festival of Ontinyent, taking place on April 5th and 6th in the city. This comes after the Royal Household issued an official statement accepting the formal proposal made by the president of the Festival Society, Ricardo Calabuig.
The Mayor of Ontinyent, Jorge Rodríguez, highlighted that the fact the King and Queen have agreed to sponsor this commemoration “is a source of pride for the entire city and represents top-level support to continue promoting this recognition, which gives international visibility to our festivals.” The Councillor for Fair, Festivities and Traditions, Àngels Muñoz, emphasized the City Council’s involvement in organizing an event in which “we have been working side by side with the Festival Society for weeks, aiming to make this celebration a memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.”
The president of the Festival Society of the Holy Christ of the Agony, Ricardo Calabuig, pointed out that “this historic milestone for our festival motivates us to keep working to make it even greater. Having the King and Queen as sponsors gives us a level of exposure that strengthens the prestige of our celebrations.” The commemorative events will include a grand themed parade, concerts, exhibitions, and historical reenactments. Among the key activities, there will be a roundtable with former presidents of the Festival Society, a lecture on the festival’s influence on society, and a special parade which will be the highlight of the celebration. The City Council and the Festival Society have invited the public to take an active part in the festivities.
