Ricardo Olmedo Baratta, a scholar of folklore in his country, El Salvador, is organizing a festival of Moors and Christians, in which Ontinyent has served as a reference, since he visited the past festivals of Moors and Christians.
During his stay in Ontinyent, he met with the president of the Festive Society of Ontinyent who gave him several holiday books.
His passion for these parties, in his case helped by the research that decades ago his grandmother made, has led him to organize this party in what is a cultural rescue. His farm, where he is creating a museum related to the party is called “Moros y Cristianos”. In one of the books written by his grandmother, Maria Baratta, in the early twentieth century, it is mentioned that in 1731 there is already reference to the Moors and Christians in El Salvador, in reference to the proclamation of Carlos III as king of Spain.
A party in which there is no shortage of indigenous references. Now that they are immersed in their main act, a parade in which theatrical groups from El Salvador, music bands, horses, etc … have participated, as well as mythical characters from local popular legends, from El Salvador, Ricardo Olmedo and all the participants send a greeting to the Moors and Christians of Ontinyent, of those who keep a pleasant memory.
